Case for Support
THE CHALLENGEAlberta's and Canada's economic health is threatened by a severe shortage of 77,000 skilled workers in the coming decade. The approaching labour crisis will be caused by a scarcity of young people entering careers in trades and technology to replace a generation of highly skilled baby boomers in a variety of professions. Industry, government and independent researchers say there is increasing evidence that the skilled-worker shortage will get worse as the Alberta economy continues to rebound and grow. THE SOLUTIONSAIT's new Trades and Technology Complex will engage up to 8,100 more full and part-time students each year in hands-on, career-oriented training through an additional 3,600 new student spaces. Within 10 years, SAIT can deliver more than 20,000 additional skilled trades people, technicians and technologists to industry - generating billions of dollars in gross domestic product. |
